The African Centre for Media and Information Literacy (AFRICMIL) is a non-governmental Organization working to promote accountability and good governance through whistle blowing and promotion of active citizen. Few days ago, a video clip was released which revealed the governor of Kano state collecting bribe and stashing in his pockets bundles of U.S dollars from someone purportedto be a contractor.
AFRICIMIL has called on anticorruption agencies; the Economic and Financial crimes commission (EFCC) and the independent corrupt practices commission (ICPC) to probe video clips of Kano state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. In a statement by AFRICIMIL coordinator, Chido Onumah, he described the allegations against the governor as well as the video evidenced as “too glaring to ignore”, saying the accusation are too weighty to be neglected.
According to Onumah, “we are aware that hands of the agencies are tied by constitutional immunity enjoyed by Mr. Ganduje as codified in Section 308 of the 1999 amended CFRN, but it shouldn’t stop the agencies from conducting preliminary investigation into the matter. The organization commended Daily Nigerian for the exposure as well as the contractor who recorded the clips.
